Stockholm
The city is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful capitals.
Situated at the spot where Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden,
flows into the Baltic Sea, the city it sheltered by an archipelago that
encompasses tens of thousands of islands. Stockholm was founded in the mid 13 th
century, and is today a modern metropolis with 1.6 million residents. Stockholm
offers a wide selection of shops and department stores, more than 60 museums as
well as over 700 restaurants, 26 of which are listed in Guide Michelin. Among
the most popular cultural and tourist sites is the Old Town, founded in the 13
th century with a prevailing medieval atmosphere, and where the Royal Palace is
situated. The Stockholm City Hall is admired for its architecture and grand
halls, here the Nobel Prize Banquet is held every year on December 10. The
Stockholm-Uppsala region is one of the most research-intensive in Europe.

Location
The symposium will be held at a new conference centre at Stockholm University,
Aula Magna, situated in the national city park with unique cultural and natural
values, easily accessible by subway and bus from Stockholm City.
Student travel grants
Undergraduate and graduate students presenting papers at HPCE 2002 will be
qualified for travel grants including waived registration fee and/or a cash
award. No more than two grant requests per research group will be considered.
Letters of application are due November 15, 2001. A letter of support from the
faculty research advisor must accompany each letter as well as a copy of the
submitted abstract.
Accommodation
All participants are requested to make their own hotel room reservation.

Transport
The nearest international airport to Stockholm is Arlanda (ARN), which
frequently is reached by international flights several times per day. From
Arlanda it takes about 30 minutes by taxi,
bus or
train to Stockholm City.
Weather
In mid-April the weather is somewhat unpredictable and the temperature at
day-time may vary between +5-10º C with typical night-temperatures of +2-5º C.
Consequently you should bring warm clothes and an umbrella.
