Stockholm
The city is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful capitals. Situated at the spot where Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden, flows into the Baltic Sea, the city it sheltered by an archipelago that encompasses tens of thousands of islands. Stockholm was founded in the mid 13 th century, and is today a modern metropolis with 1.6 million residents. Stockholm offers a wide selection of shops and department stores, more than 60 museums as well as over 700 restaurants, 26 of which are listed in Guide Michelin. Among the most popular cultural and tourist sites is the Old Town, founded in the 13 th century with a prevailing medieval atmosphere, and where the Royal Palace is situated. The Stockholm City Hall is admired for its architecture and grand halls, here the Nobel Prize Banquet is held every year on December 10.
