MISCELLANEOUS  USEFUL INFORMATION

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Please visit the website: http://www.sl.se/Templates/SubStart.aspx?id=1906 for in-depth information on the local transportation system in Stockholm. The web site is in English.

Arlanda Airport to Stockholm center
Please see the following alternatives on how to travel from Stockholm Arlanda Airport:

  • By airport coach, “Flygbussarna”, which leaves every 10-15 minutes and costs 110 SEK one way (about 10 € or 14 USD) to City Terminal (close to Central Station). Tickets can be bought at a counter in the arrival terminal or from the bus driver (payment preferentially with credit card). Traveling time 40 minutes.

  • By Arlanda Express train, which leaves every 10-15 minutes during daytime and costs 220 SEK (20 € or 28 USD one way). Tickets can be bought at a counter in the arrival terminal or from machines in the same hall and on the platform. It is more expensive to buy the tickets onboard so please try to avoid that. Traveling time 20 minutes.

  • The most inexpensive way to travel from Arlanda Airport to downtown Stockholm is to take bus 583 to "Märsta Station" and then the local train to Stockholm Central station. Please note that you must buy the bus and train ticket before you get on the bus. This you can do at the Arlanda Airport “Pressbyrån”.

  • By taxi, which takes 30-40 minutes to the Stockholm downtown area and costs 450-550 SEK (40-50 €). Always ask for a "fixed" price and clarify how much it is, otherwise you may end up paying too much. At the airport there are two taxi lines, one with larger companies (to the left) and one with smaller companies (to the right). To get the lowest fixed price it is better to take one of the larger companies (Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir, Taxi 020). To go direct to Stockholm University, the address of the venue is "Aula Magna", Frescativägen 6 at the Stockholm University campus. Go inside the building and upstairs to get to the plenary room. All taxis will take all major credit cards.

  • By airport shuttle, e.g. Airport shuttle.

How to get to Stockholm from other airports

  • Bromma Airport: This airport has good service to Brussels and as it is a small airport the check-in time is normally just a few minutes. From Stockholm Bromma Airport (located within Stockholm city) you can take the airport coach, “Flygbussarna” to City Terminal (close to Central Station). The cost for a one way ticket is 79 SEK (7 €). You may also travel by taxi (no fixed fare available).

  • Skavsta airport: From Stockholm Skavsta Airport (located about 100 km south of Stockholm) you have to take the airport coach, “Flygbussarna”. The bus ticket is 110 SEK one way (about 10 € or 14 USD) to City Terminal (close to Central Station). This airport is primarily used by Ryanair and other low price airlines.

How to get to Stockholm University from downtown Stockholm

The most convenient way to travel to Stockholm University is to take the underground (subway) red line, direction Mörby Centrum. You get off at the station “Universitetet”. There is a red line station at the Central Station (T-Centralen) and at several other locations in the city core. Depending on where you stay, you may need to go to T-Centralen first and transfer.

It is also possible to go by bus 40 or 70 to “Universitetet”. Please consult a map upon arrival.

How to get from underground and from bus stop to the venue

Both the "Universitetet Norra" (next to the Metro station) and "Universitetet Södra" bus stops as well as the Metro station (marked with a "T" on the map) are within 100 meters of the Aula Magna. Please consult the map. If you come from the southern bus stop and enter the building on the same side (this is also where taxis will drop you) you have to go upstairs to get to the reception and the plenary room.

Local transportation

Stockholm University is located almost in the centre of Stockholm. Public transportation tickets are valid for the underground, busses and commuter trains (not the Arlanda Express).

  • You can purchase tickets and passes (cash only) in the underground and commuter train stations, but not on the busses. For the latter you have to buy the ticket in advance at an underground station or from other ticket vendors, mainly the small shops called "Pressbyrån".
Single trip tickets are expensive and should be avoided.

  • One alternative is to buy a strip ticket with coupons, which will be stamped by the ticket collector at the station or by the bus driver. The strip ticket contains 16 coupons and costs 180 SEK (16 € or 23 USD). For all trips you will make they will stamp two coupons, i.e. one strip ticket will last for 8 trips (2 € per trip, whereas paying cash is about twice as much). A coupon is valid up to one hour after it has been stamped and you are allowed to make changes between busses, commuter trains and the underground without stamping new coupons.

  • The third alternative is to buy a 72 hour pass (costs 200 SEK i.e. 18 € or 25 USD) which allows for unlimited travel during the time period.
