Trends in Organic Chemistry
Medicinal Chemistry
Monday 3 April 2006
Umeå University
|
The search for biologically active agents with therapeutic value has occupied mankind for thousands of years. Medicinal chemistry today concerns the discovery and development of biologically active compounds as well as the interpretation of their mode of action on a molecular level. In addition to the potential for drug development biologically active compounds can also be used as chemical tools to study biological systems in health and disease. Modern medicinal chemistry relies on a number of techniques including synthetic organic chemistry, structure-based approaches and computational chemistry. In this Symposium different topics in medicinal chemistry will be presented and discussed. The symposium forms part of the series ”Trends in Organic Chemistry” sponsored by the Swedish Chemical Society Division of Organic Chemistry.
